Part-time Development Underwriter

Our client, one of the largest insurers in the UK are looking to appoint an experienced Development Underwriter to join their New Business team in Leeds. Responsible for underwriting commercial risks from a designated panel of intermediaries within agreed authority levels, to achieve profitable growth in line with Company and branch objectives and provide a reference point and training for technical underwriting and product knowledge within the branch and participate new initiatives, where you will be able to win business.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Development Underwriter your duties will include:

* Supporting a team of brokers * Underwrite new and existing business profitability, accurately and in line with established Underwriting practice. * Maintain and develop business relationships with intermediaries. * Actively encourage generation of profitable new business. * Respond to customers requests for information. * Complete the Managing Underwriting procedure for a panel of Underwriters within the Branch. * Coaching and developing commercial underwriters.

Preferred Skills:

* An experienced Underwriter * Candidate is or looking to progress towards ACII/Qualified ACII. * ‘‘A’‘ Level or equivalent education. * Technical product knowledge. * PC/mainframe systems/keyboard skills. * Mentoring/coaching skills. * Training skills. * Networking & Relationship building skills. * Knowledge and understanding of the market. * Good influencing skills and ability to work with senior managers.

Personal Attributes:

* Strong Interpersonal/communication/sales/negotiation skills. * Team focused. * Effective time management skills * You will have a ‘‘can do’‘ attitude and excel at initiating and maintaining great relationships with our key customers in Leeds. * Your people skills will also enable you to develop the skills of less experienced underwriters in the team.
